The Summary of Developing Countries of the video
Developing countries becoming more integrated into the corbel economy have 5 obstacles.
First: Obstacles underdeveloped/heavily controlled financial markets.
Second: Large of government ownership/control of productive assets.
Third: Persistent budget deficits of financed by printing money.
Forth: Over-valued exchange rates.
Fifth: Policies that encourage import substitution industrializations (ISI).
What does ISI stand for? ISI means Import Substitution Industrialization. Rationale for ISI: 1. Side benefits from industrialization 2. Improvement in terms of trade 3. Cheap and convenient source of market importation. The speaker doesn’t support ISI theory. Sri Lanka didn’t improvement of trade in the society, so it is still developing country. South Korea started improvement of world trade. Export policy is expanding, it is good for improving society and the economics of national growth are of great importance.
Creating a Poverty – Free World
According to this video, Muhammad Yunus created a Grameen Bank to help the poor people and eradicate the poverty. Poverty is not caused by the poor people, caused system with building and caused the policy. Before they did something wrong and poverty this year so that’s do something right, the poverty will disappear. For example: The Bonsai Tree is like poor people, society is the place doesn’t give the poor people to grow. So we have to change the place. In my opinion, Yunus is a intelligence and generous person. He use his intelligence to created a poverty – free world and use his generosity to help the poor people change their life and predicament.
Compare the cultural practices of food consumption in the U.S. and Taiwan
Every country has different cultural and different foods, people how to eat food and how to prepare food are totally different. Every country has different characteristic, so I am going to talk about U.S. and Taiwan’s foods similarities and differences.
There are similarities in food both countries. Fast food in U.S., and Taiwan are very popular because every children like to eat and sometimes it is very convenient; And vegetarian is very popular in each country because some of people have religious belief and other one is some of people are diet to lose weight so they only eat vegetable without meat.
There are differences in food both countries. In U.S, bread is staple food, people eat a lot of bread like hamburger, pizza and sandwich. They just put some vegetables inside, it is very easy to make and prepare, but there are some of food the calories are very higher and fat. In Taiwan, rice is staple food and other one is noodle. We always eat rice or braised pork rice with stir-fry vegetable, sea food and meat in lunch and dinner time. We have to spend a lot of time to prepare and cook, but the calories aren’t too higher and fat. We usually ate dinner with our family at home. It is very different.
Both countries have very different cultural practices of foods: In the U.S., people eat a lot of bread. However, people in Taiwan eat rice everyday. It is their distinguishing characteristic. I think the most important thing: We have to eat healthy foods to get a healthy body.
Symbol
(According to this article)
A symbol, in general, is a sign or object that represents something else. All symbols either have two-sided coins. On one side are the physical characteristics, and on the other side are the meanings, or what the symbols stand for. “Pamela Hartmann and Laurie Blass P12″ For example: The pipe is like an open Bible. It functions to make them less anxious and make me strong-hearted. ”Roseman & Rubel” Cultural rules determine every aspect of food preparation. Who eats together defines social units, for example, nuclear family. ”Mary Douglas(1972)” So an entire nation may be represented by an array of symbols. (p15) For example: In the 1989s, many young Chinese students are dieted as a symbol of opposition to authority, they wanted had a democracy and freedom.
